Looks Like It's Biden

http://www.thewashingtonnote.com/archive s/2008/08/wait_til_americ/

Sigh. Biden's ok, I guess. He's better than Tim Kaine, Evan Bayh or freakin' Chet Edwards, but he's still mediocre. Why all the suspense though? If Obama had announced a few days ago, he'd be able to build the media wave into the weekend. How odd.

Re: Looks Like It's Biden (none / 0)

Who would you like it to be?

by soyousay on Fri Aug 22, 2008 at 05:48:49 PM EST

Not Biden (none / 0)

Biden is the most boring speaker in the world. Now, with Obama's "hope and change" monologue wearing thin he needed someone that could campaign tough against the Republicans. That sinking feeling continues...

Re: Not Biden (2.00 / 2)

It's a tough week to be a McCain supporter, isn't it? That sinking feeling you have is of your preferred candidate being exposed as an out-of-touch old rich guy who doesn't understand the number one issue of importance to Americans.

Biden would balance the ticket well, combining a face that doesn't need extensive introduction with an attack-dog approach to republicans that'll serve well on the stump and in the VP debate. The choice of Biden would definitely be a signal of reassurance, as voters will know that an experienced foreign-policy hand and a solid Democrat is in Washington should events require him to step into the presidency.

It's one way to go, and not a bad choice. Obama had a lot of options, and most of them were pretty good; we'll just have to see which one he chose.

Re: Not Biden (none / 0)

You pegged me wrong; I'm not a McCain supporter. I don't have a dog in the fight. Both candidates carry too much baggage IMO. You've got a stinking elitist republican and you got a guy who hangs with people that IMO are radicals...at least use to hang with them.

I read on a blog that a planned Keynote Preview planned by Mark Warner has been "postponed". Warmer runs a well-olied machine, so that is not like him.

And they've shown that they can still play the media, even when the media is trying to handicap them...

Biden's great: clean, well-spoken..... (none / 0)

Just hold your breath, and wait for the first gaffe from mouth almighty.

If it is indeed Biden, this will be the most ordinary and unexciting choice since John Edwards.

Re: Biden's great: clean, well-spoken..... (none / 0)

You'd say that about anyone whose name isn't Hillary. That kinda skews your perspective, dontcha think?

And Biden, while not without his flaws, has been a pretty solid Democrat for a long time. He's got a compelling story, a strong intellect, a good sense of humor, and credentials worthy of respect, not your comfortably anonymous derision.

Strange you would say that. I've said in several comments over the last month that I think the choice of HRC as Obama's VP would be a mistake.

Yeah, cause the problem with the Kerry/Edwards ticket was EDWARDS. Nobody could have righted that sinking ship.

and Edwards (none / 0)

was the most unexciting choice since, well, Lieberman, who was the most unexciting choice since Al Gore, who was only slightly less unexciting than Lloyd Bentsen, who was just as unexciting as Geraldine Ferraro and Walter Mondale.

I don't even know what people mean by "boring". Isn't Biden's whole supposed "problem" that he puts his foot in his mouth? What's boring about that?

People that talk that much just get to (none / 0)

be exhausting after a while, so boring is a good word. They dilute the impact of anything they have to say, because they go for quantity of words, and never stop talking. It reminds me of the salesman who has a prospect hooked, and tnen loses the sale because he keeps running his mouth.

Re: Looks Like It's Biden (2.00 / 1)

Wonder if Ambinder actually called something correctly with his guess about charter flights?

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/EJA86 3

A flight from Midway to New Castle, DE... to pick someone up? Who knows?  No other flights from anywhere in and around Chicago to anywhere in and around Delaware... or vice versa. Just this charter.

I wouldn't be disappointed with Biden in the least. If anything, I think he's made his stock rise in the last week by being funny and personable. The "homes" situation only makes it even more likely, since Biden is still pretty poor by Senate standards.

Re: Looks Like It's Biden (none / 0)

It would be pretty weird at this point if it wasn't Biden.  I'd rather it not be but I'm resigned to listen to him go on at length about some really weird shit as well as some sensible stuff and good attacks at McCain.

For what it's worth, Clemons has now updated his site and backed off slightly, in light of these Obama-Bayh bumper stickers.  It sounds like he doesn't have as much information as he initially made it appear.

Re: Looks Like It's Biden (none / 0)

If those stickers made him bounce off, he has NO frickin' clue. Those are colossally fake.

Re: Looks Like It's Biden (none / 0)

Didn't they do that with Kerry too?  I think they had signs, bumper stickers, and backdrops printed with four different options.  The NY Post (who else?) even jumped the gun and ran a Kerry/Gephardt headline, after sneaking a peek at one of the fakes.

okaish pick (none / 0)

I mean considering the  opposition Bayh, Edwards and Kaine, he seems definitely a plus. Although Sebelius and Richardson could  have been nice picks.

I do not quite see how Biden helps win any particular state.
At least he will prove to be a good attack dog. Which tells me that Obama should have announced Biden long time back.  But then what do I know?

What I find really interesting about this pick is that after using the whole primary trying to paint Clintons as racists, Obama picked up a person who has actually made really racially sensitive remarks. Now if McCain picks Jindal, then the republicans can  call the Dem ticket racist (remember ``the senator from Punjab'' memo).
